Established in 1972, the Philippine Society of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology aims to promote and recognize the practice of allergy and immunology in the Philippines. Pioneered by the first Filipino allergist, Dr. Arturo B. Rotor and founded by Dr. Felicidad B. Cua-Lim, the first president of the society, PSAAI has come a long way locally and internationally.

Locally, PSAAI is a recognized specialty society of the Philippine Medical Association, a subspecialty society of the Philippine College of Physicians and a subspecialty section of the Philippine Pediatric Society. 

 

Internationally, the society is a recognized member in good standing of the World Allergy Organization (WAO) and the Asia Pacific Association of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (APAAACI).

Fast forward to 2022. This is where we find ourselves on our Golden Anniversary. Still in the middle of one big global pandemic and world power struggle.

 

PSAAI is now 154 members strong, spread out all over the archipelago. Most are graduates of the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital, University of Santo Tomas Hospital and Fe Del Mundo Medical Center, while others are from international training institutions.

 

We cannot help but look back, be nostalgic and feel that pride. PSAAI has really come a long way from 11 pioneering allergists. The path has not always been rosy, the uphill road has been steep, trodden with many trials, but yes, with so many achievements through the years.

 

Truly, this is a golden milestone. We are regionally and globally recognized as a group of passionate and excellent allergy and immunology specialists, in the forefront of dedicated service, continuing education, training and research, leadership and partnerships with others with the ultimate goal of providing the best allergy health care for all people.

 

Fifty glorious years. We have found gold! Fueled by the unwavering and dedicated effort of members past and the passionate dedication of present members with the eagerness and energy of the younger generation of allergists, surely PSAAI will continue to shine as bright as GOLD!
